te recomiendo un tecnica...

after you cut out your cosplayer
select around your cutout.
(wand_ select outside, rightclick select inverse.)

at the bottom of the Layer panel
a square with a white circle.
click it
this adds a mask layer to the side of your cutout layer.
It should be a b/w silhouette of your character.

hold alt and click on the mask
a black and white silhouette should now appear on your canvas

-with the white area selected with the wand.
go to the top SELECT> MODIFY> BORDER
a window will pop up
-type in a number between 10 and 50
this will create a outline the width of the pixels you typed in.

-with the paint bucket add some grey.
the Grey will fade in to the black and white a little.

.now click on your cosplayer layer (return to regular)and
create a 2 new layers (one black one white) put them under your cosplayer.

now when you have your cosplayer over the black or the white.
the edges fade out SMOOTHLY rather then a sudden drop.
